Brazilian Butt Lift is a unique procedure that transfers fat from the hips, lower back, and flank to give an S-shaped lower spine, while also contouring the lateral thigh. These fat cells can then be injected at various depths into the buttocks to create a firm, more shapely rear end. NEWU Plastic Surgery offers the most advanced methods to help you look and feel younger, including this new Water (Aqua)-assisted Liposuction procedure.
What is a Brazilian butt lift?
Brazilian Butt Lift with fat grafting involves harvesting your own body fat from areas of excess and transferring it into the buttock tissue. Excess fat in the flanks, hips, lower back, thighs, or abdomen is liposuctioned, processed and injected into the Gluteal muscles and soft tissue of your buttocks. During this fat grafting process, the buttocks can be contoured to the desired shape and size. The fullness and projection of the buttocks can be greatly increased by laying many fine layers of micro-fat grafts throughout the thickness of the Gluteal muscle and the subcutaneous tissue.
How is the Brazilian butt lift performed?
The Brazilian butt lift involves three techniques: liposelection, donor fat processing, and injection of the donor fat into the buttocks. The buttock is first contoured by performing Body-Jet water-assisted liposuction, a type of liposuction, which is performed in the stomach and areas around the buttocks if necessary. Common areas to liposuction include the back- directly above the butt, the stomach, and the thighs. Please note that the liposuction alone will give your body a more attractive look. After liposuction, Dr. Leeman carefully purifies the fat so that only the best donor fat cells will be injected back into your buttocks for augmentation. The fat which has been suctioned is processed to isolate viable fat cells. The fat is carefully purified such that only a fraction of the donor fat removed will qualify for re-injection to the buttocks. The purified fat is then placed or transferred to the buttocks with special cannulas. Our technique of injection enables the fat cells to receive adequate blood supply so that they can survive once inside the buttocks tissue.
What is Body-Jet Water-assisted Liposuction?
Body-jet water-assisted liposuction is a totally new liposuction technique and the first of its kind in the United States. Using the flow of water to dislodge fat, this technique is unlike any other, providing many advantages. Using a gentle, pulsating spray of fluid, water-jet assisted liposuction dislodges fat without the brute force used in traditional liposuction procedures. Fat is loosened from connective tissues by the gentle fluid spray and then simultaneously removed. This gentle method results in minimal bruising and tissue trauma, while still achieving excellent results. The fat is harvested safely and is optimal condition for transfer to other areas of the body.
When can I go back to work after my procedure?
Following the butt augmentation procedure, you must not sit directly on your buttocks for two weeks. Most people can return to work in 2 weeks, provided you do only a minimum amount of sitting. You must wear a special garment (to control swelling) for two weeks. There may be a small amount of swelling for up to 6 weeks. However, you should be able to resume all normal activities at 4 weeks post op.
How long do the fat injections last?
If the donor fat is properly harvested and processed, a large percentage of fat cells will survive the crucial period until they receive blood supply. Once this happens, these fat cells remain for the patient’s lifetime. At about a month after surgery, the improvement you see will be long term
Is the procedure safe?
The Brazilian butt lift is a well tolerated procedure. It is no more risky than liposuction, which is the most common plastic surgical procedure.
Am I an eligible candidate for a Brazilian butt lift?
Healthy men and women who have an adequate amount of fat in their abdomen, hips or other areas make the best candidates for a Brazilian butt lift. It is also important to have realistic goals for improvement. Patients who don’t smoke, or who are willing to stop throughout the healing process, will experience the best results.
What are the risks and side effects of a Brazilian butt lift?
As with all surgery, moderate swelling and bruising are normal. You can also expect mild to moderate discomfort or pain. Most patients compare the feeling to the soreness after a really hard workout. Scarring is likely, and new scars are red, dark pink or purple in color. Scars on the body can take up to a year or longer to completely fade away.
If an infection does occur then a superficial infection may only require an antibiotic ointment. Deeper infections are treated with antibiotics. Development of an abscess may require drainage.
