What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser-intense, pulsating beam of light – to remove unwanted hair. During Laser Hair Removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to the individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damage’s the hair follicle which inhibits future hair growth. Never having to worry about if you shaved for that pool party, or for that first date is our goal for you here at NewU Plastic Surgery.
Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?
The best candidate for Laser Hair Removal is someone with dark, coarse hair. The laser is attracted to the melanin, or pigment that gives hair color. We can treat all skin colors with Laser Hair Removal, but of course, we have to be more cautious with those who have a darker complexion; being that the laser is attracted to pigment so the darker the skin you have the more the laser will pick up on the skin and not the actual hair follicle. This being said we can still treat those with a darker complexion, we just treat you with caution so you can get the best results. Patients with blonde, grey, and red hair do not respond to Laser Hair Removal, due to lack of pigment for the laser to focus on.
How does the laser feel?
Every patient is going to be different in regards to how Laser Hair Removal feels. The darker and more coarse the hair is, the higher energy the laser will require so the more you will feel the laser. The less hair you have, the less you will feel the laser. So with each treatment, you will feel the pain level going down due to the hair becoming thinner.
When do you start to see results?
Every patient is going to be different in regards to when they will start to see results. Typically, within 6-8 treatments is needed until you will see the final results. With each session, you should see a 15% decrease of hair growth in the area being treated. As the treatments go on, you will notice that your hair is less coarse and will start becoming patchy where hair does not grow anymore.
How long is the Laser Hair Removal treatment?
Treatment time varies on what area you are treating. Typically, treatments take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. We believe in giving our patients the best possible care they deserve by making sure they are comfortable throughout the whole treatment process.
