What is a Brow Lift?

Our Austin brow lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to raise the brows. This surgery improves the appearance of the brow, the forehead, and the area around the eyes by lifting the skin and soft tissue of the forehead and brow. It can be performed alone or in combination with other facial rejuvenation procedures.

Is a Brow Lift the Right Treatment Option For Me?

If people often comment that you look tired, sad or angry, a brow lift may be the right procedure for you. Dr. Leeman’s delicate touch allows less discomfort, less bruising and a faster recovery. By gently correcting loose skin and fat around the eyes, our methods do not leave visible scarring and stitching, and create a beautiful outcome. Healthy men and women who have good skin elasticity make ideal candidates for brow lift surgery. Patients who don’t smoke, or who are willing to stop throughout the healing process, will experience the best results of a brow lift.

What Should I Expect With a Brow Lift Procedure?

Surgical techniques for a forehead lift in Austin may vary, depending on your desired results. Options include:

  • Endoscopic brow lift: This technique requires several small incisions behind the hairline, through which an endoscope (long, thin tube with a tiny camera) and instruments are inserted to lift forehead tissues and secure them with sutures.
  • Coronal brow lift: The surgeon makes an incision behind the hairline across the top of the head. The forehead is lifted, excess skin is removed, and the incision is closed with sutures.
  • Hairline brow lift: With the hairline technique, the surgeon places an incision between the top of the forehead and the beginning of the hairline, through which a small amount of tissue is removed from the forehead, rather than the scalp.

What is Recovery Like After a Brow Lift?

While the recovery time for each patient varies, most individuals are able to return to work after about seven to ten days. Please keep in mind that sun exposure should be limited. We advise against any strenuous activity for at least three weeks following a brow lift.

Brow Lift FAQ's

What are the benefits of a brow lift?

Our Austin forehead lift is designed to combat the signs of aging by reducing frown or worry lines for a smooth, more youthful appearance. Brow lifts can also be used to raise naturally low or heavy brows. Most brow lifts result in increased confidence and heightened self-image and self-esteem.

Are the results of a brow lift long-lasting?

While the aging process will continue after brow lift surgery, patients will continue to appear younger than their actual age. Some patients will opt to have a second surgery, but this will not be necessary until 10 to 15 years from the initial brow lift.

What are the risks and side effects of a brow lift?

Complications with brow lift surgery are extremely rare, and most can be corrected with surgery. Possible complications and risks include nerve damage that can lead to uncontrollable muscle functions, scarring, hair loss, and loss of feeling in the forehead. As with any surgery, infection is a risk. Smokers have a higher risk of complications during the skin healing process.

How long does a brow lift procedure take?

The brow lift procedure generally lasts one to two hours. Depending on needs and desires of patients, the timeframe can vary.

What type of anesthesia is used in a brow lift?

Depending on your preference, either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation may be used. Dr. Leeman has performed many brow lift surgeries under local anesthesia with sedation.

Is there scarring, swelling or pain after a brow lift?

Temporary discomfort and swelling after a brow lift are normal. This should subside after a few days. Dr. Leeman strategically places incisions along the hairline or in natural facial folds so that scars are not visible once you are fully healed.
